60th Reunion Highlights

Grover Cleveland High School

Class of 1961 – 60th Reunion

March 26, 2022

Our Cleveland High School Class of 1961 reunion was not good. It was EXCELLENT.

Between Covid, travel restrictions, our age, and the real surprise delayed medical procedures that took place in March, we ended up with 19 classmates (3 from S-60) and 8 guests for a total of 27 for our sit-down dinner on Saturday night, March 26th.

On Friday night we had 15 attend our Early Bird Pizza Party that was held in the hotel's Presidential Suite.

While we have had great reunions in the past, this one, because of the small number of people, turned out to be a nice intimate social mixing event. Folks were up and around, talking and reminiscing with each other in a relaxed and enjoyable setting both nights.

Many that attended felt that the time for a reunion every 5 years is over. No more renting out a hotel ballroom, but instead, just getting together in the backroom of some restaurant every year or so for a nice informal gathering, similar to our Friday night get-together. No advanced reservations. Just show up, mix and mingle, order whatever you want to eat, and enjoy the evening. That will be our reunion plan going forward.

For those of you that could not make it, for whatever reason, you were truly missed. When folks asked about you, they received whatever information we had regarding your situation. For those that responded “no, not attending” we all hope you are ok and that we get to see you sometime in the future.

On behalf of Jerry Shea, Kurt Van Laar, Suzanne Shroyer, and Dawn MesKimen we thank those that attended and hope for the best for all our classmates. A special thanks to Judy Garrett Hatfield who came up with the idea of renting a hotel suite that tuned into our Friday Night Early Bird Pizza Party, which has now set the stage for future reunion get-togethers.
